Chicago Union Station  11.24.02.

On a bleak November day in 2002 I took advantage of a Special offer on Amtrak, $22 each way from Alliance to Chicago. Amtrak lived up to it's reputation of promptness (joke) minimum of 2 hurs late both ends and that includes 2 hours late leaving the platform at Chicago!

This was my first train ride in America. The ride itself was pleasant for an overnight trip. No coffee, no food and dark outside. It took me about 3 hours to unfreeze from the blistering cold and snow at Alliance whilst waiting for the train to show up.

I made my way around the station taking pictures, got hasseled by the cops. Waited a few hours and got the "Capitol Ltd" back home and put it down to experience. Despite my rather uneventful experience, Chicago's Union Station is still a magnificent structure and worthy of a visit.

All photo's taken using my trusty old Nikon Coolpix 990 point 'n shoot digital camera.
